Sky News briefly interrupted its live coverage as President Donald Trump launched a fierce attack on NATO.
During the broadcast, Trump questioned the alliance’s commitment and suggested that without the United States, NATO could be left powerless. He declared: “We will always be there for NATO, even if they won’t be there for us.” Trump also claimed that without his leadership, Russia would have seized all of Ukraine by now.
He further criticized NATO’s strength, asserting that “Russia and China have zero fear of NATO without the United States,” and questioned whether the alliance would even support the U.S. if it faced a serious threat. Trump singled out member countries for not paying their fair share, saying most were contributing far below expectations until he took action. He boasted that he increased their defense spending to 5% of GDP, an achievement he framed as both surprising and personal: “Everyone said it couldn’t be done, but it could, because they are all my friends.”
Trump also reiterated his controversial claim about ending conflicts, stating: “I single-handedly ended eight wars,” and mocked Norway for not awarding him the Nobel Peace Prize. He emphasized that the real accomplishment was saving millions of lives, not the recognition.
Ending his statement in signature style, Trump proclaimed: “The only nation that China and Russia fear and respect is the DJT-rebuilt U.S.A. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
These comments come amid heightened tensions over Greenland, following Trump’s renewed interest in acquiring the territory from Denmark. The situation has drawn warnings from European leaders, with concerns that any aggressive U.S. move could destabilize NATO. In Washington, Secretary of State Marco Rubio sought to ease tensions, avoiding specific discussion of military options and noting that talks with Danish officials were planned. He confirmed that Trump’s interest in Greenland was not a new development.
Trump’s rhetoric follows the U.S. operation in Venezuela, where the administration captured President Nicolás Maduro. The renewed focus on Greenland has sparked concern in Europe about potential military intervention and generated criticism from NATO allies.
