Adam Kinzinger Roasts Trump on CNN, Even Jokes That He “Smells”

Former Congressman and current CNN commentator Adam Kinzinger didn’t hold back when it came to criticizing Donald Trump during an appearance on Anderson Cooper 360. After Trump reportedly urged Attorney General Pam Bondi to pursue his political rivals, Kinzinger not only slammed the move as inappropriate but also threw in a biting personal jab—saying the former president “smells.”

Kinzinger explained that mocking Trump in this way often gets under his skin more than serious political critiques. He quipped that Trump’s insecurities—like the long-running jokes about his “small hands”—have a lasting impact. When asked jokingly if Trump tries to cover it up with cologne, Kinzinger laughed and said, “He has to, right? That’s the only way to mask it.”

The CNN host isn’t alone in publicly calling out Trump. Fellow anchor Kaitlan Collins also branded him a liar on air following the indictment of former FBI Director James Comey. Kinzinger later doubled down on his comments on The Bulwark podcast, saying humor can be an effective way to cut through Trump’s persona.

He also pointed out how pop culture has joined in on the mockery. South Park has repeatedly lampooned Trump in its latest season, portraying him in bizarre and satirical ways, including with Satan as part of an ongoing parody storyline.

Despite the sharp humor, Kinzinger noted he takes Trump’s influence seriously. “I want people to beware of the danger because I think it’s very real,” he said, while still believing ridicule can be a useful tool to expose Trump’s behavior.
