As the United States prepares to celebrate its 250th year of independence in 2026, reports suggest that former President Donald Trump could be featured on a special edition one-dollar coin.
A draft design circulating online shows Trump’s profile on one side, while the other side depicts him standing before the American flag with his fist raised. Around the edge, the words “fight, fight, fight” appear a slogan closely associated with his rallies and campaign style.
The design was reportedly overseen by Brandon Beach, the U.S. Treasurer. In response to criticism, the Treasury Department said that while no final design has been approved yet, the draft reflects “the enduring spirit of America and its democracy” as the nation enters its semiquincentennial milestone.
Not everyone welcomed the news. Anti-Trump groups like Republicans Against Trump mocked the idea online, calling it symbolic of a “banana republic.” On the other hand, Trump supporters celebrated the move, with political commentator Steve Guest declaring, “America is back, and so is the one-dollar coin.”
Interestingly, it’s unusual for living figures to appear on U.S. currency. However, in 2020, Congress passed legislation signed by Trump himself allowing the Treasury Secretary to issue commemorative $1 coins in 2026 to mark America’s 250th anniversary. By law, the design must be “emblematic of the United States semiquincentennial.”
The draft release comes amid political tensions in Washington, where a government shutdown has delayed many official functions. Still, Beach assured supporters that more designs will be shared once the funding dispute is resolved.
If finalized, the coin would not only break tradition by featuring a living political figure, but also cement Donald Trump as a central image of America’s 250th birthday celebrations. Whether viewed as patriotic or polarizing, the Trump dollar coin is already sparking debate and could become one of the most talked-about collectibles in modern U.S. history.
